VII. Curriculum Vitae
Prepare a curriculum vitae of no more than three pages that contains your employment
history and a list of your publications, grants, awards, etc. Artists should list major
exhibitions. Lawyers and other professionals should describe their major
accomplishments. Attach it to your application form.
VIII. Project Statement
Provide a comprehensive description of your research project not to exceed five pages (approximately 3,500 words) in terms that can be understood by scholars from another study area. Type on plain white paper, using only one side. Place your name at the top of each page. Number each page accordingly. You may use your native language in making the description but when you do so, you must provide an English translation.
Attach your curriculum vitae (#VII) and project statement (#VIII) to your application form together with your letter of recommendation.
Your research project description should include all of the following information:
- Rationale: Explain how your research project will contribute towards enhancing Asian studies in your country and in helping build a network of Asian scholars in Asia.
- Description: Explain fully and clearly all the research activities that you propose to undertake as part of your research project.
- Place the project in an academic or professional context by referring to significant works done by others on the same topic; explain the approaches and methods that you will use; include a selected bibliography, as appropriate.
- Feasibility: Explain how you propose to complete your research project within the award period.
- Significance: Explain the importance of your research project to your field and your own professional development as well as in enhancing Asian Studies in your country.
- Results/Outputs: Describe the expected results from your research project in the form of publications, artistic works, audio/video productions, etc. A copy must be submitted to the ASF office in Bangkok at the end of the award period.
- Assessment: Describe the major outputs which shall be the basis for evaluating your research project.
- Dissemination: Describe how your research results/project outputs shall be disseminated in your home country and/or in the Asian region.
- Host Institution: Provide a rationale in your choice of host institution. If more than one institution is proposed, explain the reason for doing so and the length of stay per institution.
- Language Training: Describe your need and plans for language training, as appropriate.
IX. Letter of Recommendation
Ask a senior scholar or colleague who is familiar with your work and able to comment on your professional potential and qualifications to write a letter of recommendation for you. Send him/her a copy of your Project Statement, your curriculum vitae and the enclosed Instructions for Writer of Letter of Recommendation. Write your name on the space provided and attach a self-addressed and stamped envelope before sending it to the person whom you have asked to write the letter. The letter of recommendation must be submitted to ASF or its affiliate office in this sealed envelope together with all your other documents.
Applications will not be processed without this letter of recommendation.
